Our Vision

“The Minnesota State Academy for the Blind will provide Blind and Visually Impaired students with learning, social, and life preparation opportunities for success in an ever-changing world and will be a model and resource for others in the area of vision services.”

I. VISION FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

The Minnesota State Academy for the Blind will utilize a variety of individualized strategies and will offer a range of resources and teaching methods to best meet the needs of its students, so that they may grow and develop to their fullest potential.

• Students will demonstrate the following characteristics:
• individual success to fullest potential
• exploration of various activities as part of learning process
• appropriate use of the basics: mobility, language development, and Braille
• appropriate use of social skills and interaction
• sense of self-esteem and self-worth
• ability to participate in community interaction
• independent living skills

II. VISION FOR HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION

The Minnesota State Academy for the Blind will achieve the highest quality education by providing specialized, adaptive curriculum for each student, delivered by highly qualified staff, monitored through regular evaluation, and supported by a wide-range of resources

MSAB programs will demonstrate the following characteristics:

• a coordinated team approach across various instructional settings
• development of interpersonal skills
• emphasis on self-advocacy, social skills, and independence
• encouraging exploration of new experiences
• incorporating up-to-date technology and teaching techniques
• regularly reviewed and updated curriculum
• utilizing highly trained and qualified staff
• providing continuous staff development
• offering a dynamic program that is responsive to change

In addition, MSAB will:

• provide opportunities for the education, well-being and welfare of blind and visually impaired students throughout Minnesota
• expand the outreach of services for blind and visually impaired students, and their teachers, statewide
• demonstrate willingness to adapt and adopt new educational approaches
• become a center for knowledge about teaching and learning for blind and visually impaired students and their families
• strive to meet the needs of a diverse student population by developing and adapting programs to meet the changing needs of Blind/Visually Impaired children across the state of Minnesota,
• setting high standards in the delivery of services to constituents, partnering with others in the development of resources and services,
• setting specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and tangible (SMART) goals for success,
• modeling for others, comprehensive educational opportunities for all
