Dear NCASB Member School,
Once again the Missouri School for the Blind Boosters Club requests your nomination for the annual Dr. Robert H. Thompson Award for Excellence. The award will go to an outstanding senior who has not only excelled academically but in extracurricular activities as well. Dr. Thompson not only promoted academics, but he felt that the residential school offered the unique opportunity and bad the responsibility to develop students into well rounded individuals. In order for this development to occur, he realized that the student should also be involved in extracurricular activities. The criteria for this award have been based upon his philosophy. In selecting your nominee please consider the following criteria: 1) academic achievement 2) athletics 3) scouting 4) student government 5) music 6) community involvement 7) citizenship 8) ACT and/or SAT scores 9) any other outstanding accomplishments.
Your nominee should be chosen by you and your staff. The nomination should be submitted in the form of a letter detailing the accomplishments of the student and other pertinent information that sets this senior apart from other students. In addition to the letter of nomination, up to two additional letters from teachers, coaches, houseparents or anyone else who has worked closely with the nominee would be helpful to the selection committee in making their choice. Nominations to be considered must be received by me before April 4 so that copies can be distributed to the selection committee.
The selection committee is comprised of the MSB Booster Club President, past and present administrators who are familiar with Dr. Thompson and his work, and a member of the immediate Thompson family. The traveling trophy, winner’s plaque and $ 100 cash scholarship will be presented at the NCASB Conference Swim Championships. We realize that the selection may be somewhat subjective, but we feel we will be honoring a deserving young man or woman who exemplifies the ideals of Dr. Thompson.
